Product Origins:
Hyoscine-N-Butylbromide is a derivative of Hyoscine which is extracted
from the leaves of the Duboisia tree found mainly in Australia. This
form of hyoscine is known as an antispasmodic agent and is used
extensively in the treatment of a various bowel conditions.
Pharmacological
Activities: Antimuscarinic drug. Hyoscine
N-Butylbromide exhibits mild anticholinergic and spasmolytic
atropine-like actions and possesses marked ganglionic blocking and
curariform properties. Hyoscine N-Butylbromide is devoid of central
nervous actions. Reduces peristalsis without loss of tone in peptic
ulcer therapy; reduces spasm in gastrointestinal, biliary, and renal
conditions.
Therapeutical Applications:
The most frequent use for Hyoscine N-Butylbromide
is in preparations which act to relax the smooth muscle of the
gastrointestinal, bilary and urinary tracts. Hyoscine N-Butylbromide is
also used in the treatment of obstructed bowel where surgery is not
considered an option, for the relief of acute genitourinary or
gastrointestinal spasm and to produce smooth muscle relaxation prior to
radiological procedures. Also used to counteract the symptoms of motion
sickness.
